Ferdowsi tomb in Tos Mashhad
Ferdowsi is a famous Iranian poet and epic writer whose fame is not limited to Iran but is famous all over the world and his poems have many fans in different parts of the world. Ferdowsi's tomb is located in Tos, 20 kilometers from Mashhad. The construction of this tomb is associated with long stories and since Ferdowsi's body was not allowed to other cemeteries at the time of his death, Ferdowsi's body was inevitably buried in his own garden.
In 1299, Mohammad Taqi Bahar started studying about Ferdowsi and proposed to build a tomb for him. Later, in 1305, Ki Khosro Shahrukh, the representative of Zoroastrians in the parliament, helped a team to find the exact location of Ferdowsi's grave. After finding the exact location of Ferdowsi's grave, in 1307, a competition was held for the best design for Ferdowsi's tomb, and Behzad Taherzadeh's plan was approved by the National Council Association, and finally, the first Ferdowsi tomb was built in 1313. But this building was not strong enough and the current building was rebuilt in 1347 under the supervision of engineer Hoshang Sihon. Inside the mausoleum, we see sculptures that are beautifully made to describe the stories of the Shahnameh.
This magnificent mausoleum, whose exterior is decorated with marble, is like a magnificent gem in the middle of a garden. Ferdowsi's tomb is not only limited to this poet's tomb, but there are also other parts such as the library, museum, and the tomb of Mahdi Akhwan the Third. In the museum, the tools and remains of objects taken out of Tus, most of which date back to before Islam, are kept. In this place, there is a library on two floors with nearly 9000 books. The tomb of Mahdi Akhwan, the third contemporary poet who died in 1369, is located in the Ferdowsi Mausoleum. You need to pay an entrance fee to visit this place, and about 1-2 hours seems to be enough to visit this place.
